Ms. Carruth’s 4th-grade Humanities class wrapped up their unit on Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland with a full-scale tea party right in the French Elementary Science Lab. 

The activity, complete with savory bread, two types of jellies, and butter the students made themselves, further engaged Ms. Carruth’s class in their learning and personal experience with the book.

“We had a lesson about improvisation and practiced an improv tea party conversation,” said Brenda Caruth, 4th Grade Teacher. “Students used active listening, knowledge of the characters, and improv skills to show their understanding of the book. Students used characterization skills to identify important quotes and behaviors for a character with the goal of staying in character throughout the tea party.”

While engaging and fun this was also an opportunity for the students to take ownership of their learning. 

“The Elementary G/T Humanities classroom is filled with opportunities to challenge students with character analysis, advanced thinking, and communication opportunities in a highly engaging manner.,” said Kathleen Plott, Director of Advanced Academic Services & College/Career Pathways. “Brenda Carruth has been an outstanding advocate for the continued academic growth and success of gifted and advanced learners for our Klein Family!!!”
