Klein Independent School District: Klein ISD Board Celebrates 40 Years Of Health Services

The Klein ISD Board of Trustees celebrated 40 years of excellence in the Klein ISD Health Services Department during the October Board Meeting. 

Benfer Elementary nurse Jody Cekella is no stranger to this celebratory excellence as she is currently the longest-serving nurse in the district at 24 years of service. 

“I’m so thankful Klein ISD prioritized excellence by having a Registered Nurse on every campus,” said Cekella. “It is an absolute must in today’s world with the medications and healthcare needs we are receiving.”

The Klein ISD Health Services Department is special as it has a unique staffing model for its clinics which provides registered nurses and full-time clinic assistants at every campus. Klein ISD made this practice a priority in 1981, and it still continues to be a priority 40 years later.

Some of the duties of these beloved school nurses and clinic assistants include providing annual vision and hearing screenings to nearly 30,000 students.

Our school nurses also stay busy by attending training sessions to develop their leadership skills on campus. 

“Now that we are using our Klein ISD strategic plan, we’re realigning Health Services under Profile of a Leader, ” said Dr. Yvonne Clarke, Klein ISD Director of Health Services. “That is our focus moving forward as our school nurses will be leaders on their campus.”

These duties and responsibilities all contribute to helping our nurses be the best they can be while taking care of the student’s health and wellness.
