Vistas High School Program is a special place in Klein ISD where high school students can experience smaller class sizes and accelerated graduation plans.

β€œMany of our students need small class sizes and individual attention to help them stay focused,” said Debbie Pennington, Vistas High School Program Principal. β€œEveryone here at Vistas is committed to knowing every student’s name and checking on them throughout the day.”

Staff members at Vistas spend critical time with students by conducting individual interviews with them and their families, sometimes before they are even accepted into the program.

β€œWe get to know their strengths and weaknesses and their past educational background and talk about ways that we will be helping them improve while they are at Vistas,” said Pennington. β€œWe also talk about their plans after graduation and that they will receive a lot of support, but that success is largely dependent upon the work and effort put forth by the student.”

Vistas is a place where we see student lives change, sometimes right before our eyes, because of the dedication of its educators, administration, and students alike.Β

β€œWhen we see students’ grades or attendance fall, we meet with them individually to talk to them about what is going on possibly outside of school and what help they may need from us,” said Pennington. β€œWe tell families that it’s a team effort and that we all will work together to support our students to reach their goals.”

This type of meticulous care is what makes Vistas a place where students feel safe and valued.

β€œVistas has helped me become a responsible young woman who has values,” said Perla Franco, Vistas Student. β€œI feel like the staff at Vistas succeed in building relationships because they really treat us like family.”

With the success of the Vistas High School Program, Pennington knew that her campus could offer more for her incoming students and worked towards expanding Vistas opportunities.

The 2021-2022 school year marked the inaugural year for the Vistas Early College High School. The program, a partnership between Klein ISD and Lone Star College-University Park, β€œprovides a seamless pathway from high school to college by allowing students to gradually integrate into college coursework through a traditional high school degree plan plus dual enrollment.”

This program and partnership truly serves our students who have such huge potential to accomplish great things and achieve their dreams.Β

β€œI’m so grateful for the Lone Star College-University Park staff,” said Pennington. β€œThey are extremely supportive when working with our Early College High School students, and I know that our students will succeed with the overwhelming support of these folks along with our entire staff here at Vistas. I’m so proud to be a part of this program.”

We are thankful for Ms. Pennington’s leadership, commitment to her students, and the great example she provides for her staff every day. Happy National Principals Month, Ms. Pennington!
