Spring High School Girls Choir Continues 10 Year Run

Spring High School Girls recognized nationally in Mark of Excellence Choir Competition.

SPRING, TX - From Spring ISD: The Spring High School Women’s Chorale is maintaining a long-standing tradition for the school’s music program, with their recent commendation in the national Mark of Excellence competition.

β€œThis is the 10th consecutive year that a choir from Spring High School has won,” said David Landgrebe, the group’s former conductor, now the district’s assistant director of performing and visual arts. β€œAs far as we know, no other single school in the nation has had so many wins in the competition.”

The women’s chorale was under Landgrebe’s direction when the recordings were made and submitted earlier this year.

Established in 2008 and sponsored by the Foundation for Music Education, the Mark of Excellence competition invites groups to submit unedited live performance recordings to be judged by a panel of university-level music educators from around the country.

Participation has grown over the years, and winning ensembles for 2017 were selected from more than 250 entries submitted by schools in more than 30 states. Every participating group receives comments and critical feedback from the judges, along with a compilation recording containing the performances of this year’s top winners.
