Spring ISD is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 through Oct. 15), held each year to honor the cultures and contributions of individuals who identify as Hispanic or Latino/Latina/Latinx.Β

This observance began in 1988 under President Ronald Reaganβs administration as a way to celebrate American descendants of Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America. The celebration starts mid-month because Sept. 15 marks the independence anniversary of five Central American countries: Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. It is followed by Mexicoβs Independence Day on Sept. 16 and Chileβs on Sept. 18.
Spring ISD is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by featuring staff members, students, and campuses on our social media pages. Anyone interested in sharing more about their Hispanic/Latino culture and customs can participate in our district video campaign. Hereβs how to participate:

Our video series will consist of one- to two-minute videos that feature Spring ISD students and staff sharing details about their Hispanic/Latino cultures, customs, and experiences. Each segment will be shot in the Communications Studio located in the Gordon M. Anderson Administration Building, 16717 Ella Blvd. Anyone interested in participating can reach out to our Bilingual Communications Specialist, Nathalie Ramirez, at cramir4@springisd.org.
Additionally, if your campus is doing something special to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month, reach out to us! We want to highlight any campus events and celebrations in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.
