What's Happening This Weekend: Festival Season Kicks Off

HOUSTON, TX — There’s always something going on in the Bayou City, and this weekend will have plenty of events happening in communities all over the Greater Houston area.

Here are some of the top events going on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in your neck of the woods:

Tomball German Heritage Festival| Tomball, TX| FREE| Friday-Sunday| The unofficial event kicking off the festival season is here.It’s time to don your lederhosen and embrace your inner German for the annual Tomball German Fest. Held each year in old town Tomball, the air will be filled with the smell of bratwurst and funnel cake, and the sounds of traditional oompah music. Willkomen, yall!

Bayou City Arts Festival| Houston, TX| Friday-Sunday(10am-6pm): For more than 40 years, the Bayou City Arts Festival in Memorial Park has helped raise funds to support local nonprofit organizations. The festival is the nation’s premier spring outdoor fine art event and kicks off the spring Texas art festival circuit. The festival has been consistently ranked among the top 10 in Sunshine Artists 200 Best.Get your Tickets online or at the door.

Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt in The Woodlands|The Woodlands, TX | Friday| Get a jump start on your Easter Egg Hunting expertise. Hosted by The Woodlands Township, this cool event takes the art of easter egg hunting to a new level. Bring your flashlights, cameras and Easter baskets for this unique Easter Egg hunt to remember. For Children 4 years old and up only COST: $15 for children of Woodlands residents, $20 Non-Resident, $5 sibling discount.

The Weekend:
The Lemon Climb Houston| Houston’s Chase Tower| Saturday| Join the worthy cause to eradicate childhood cancer, and help Alex’s Lemonade Stand by taking the leap and climbing 75 flights of stairs. COST: $25. Starts at 8:30 a.m.

4th Annual BigAss Crawfish Bash| La Marque, TX | Saturday| All-You-Can-Eat crawfish, a crawfish cook off competition with 80 plus cook-off teams, vendor booths, Kid Zone, Sponsors Area, live music, Veteran VIP Tent and multiple restaurants. Tickets.

Sugar Land EGGstravaganza| Sugar Land, TX| Saturday| FREE| Hop on over to Eldridge Park on Saturday, March 24 for a chance to meet the legendary Easter Bunny during city of Sugar Land's 34th Annual EGGStravaganza from noon to 3 p.m. Don't miss this chance to participate in an EGGcellent event!
Be sure to arrive in plenty of time for the "Egg Scrambles" (egg hunts) where kids scramble to collect as many eggs as possible in a short amount of time. There will be five separate egg zones: the kiddie egg hunt for children 2 and under; scrambles for ages 3-5, 6-8, 9-12; and a special needs area predominantly for children with vision or mobility impairments. The egg-hunt area for children with special needs will have beeping eggs available for children who are blind or visually impaired. This area is also a quiet egg hunt area great for children with sensory-processing issues who need a quieter environment. Each area will run continuously throughout the event while supplies last.

Springfest in Spring, TX | Old town Spring| Saturday and Sunday| FREE Admission| What began as Wine and Art show and over time it has evolved to so much more to include music, food and lots of family fun. It will be the perfect weekend to walk the shop-lined streets of quaint and quirky Old Town Spring as you taste craft beers and wines from coast to coast.

5th Annual Kite Festival at Hermann Park| Houston| Sunday 10-5| Go fly a kite? Sounds like a lot of fun, and hundreds of Houstonians will be at Miller Hill for the Hermann Park Conservancy Kite Festival| FREE.

Bayou City Outdoor Graffiti Arts & Bike Ride| Houston| C’mon out to Market Square Park and connect with fun loving folks who are just like you. Take a ride through the cityscape and check out that outdoor art that was formerly outlawed. Meet at Market Square Park in front of Niko Niko's - Parking: There is an abundance of on-street parking in downtown. Metered on-street parking is free all day on Sundays. Never park at a red meter or if the street has red markings. Milam and Travis streets along the park are also considered mobility lanes so you cannot park there from 7-9 am or 4-6 pm.$5 parking is also available at Market Square Garage at 300 Milam, which is conveniently located across the street from the park.

The Woodlands Concert in The Park|The Woodlands Northshore Park| Sunday 5:30-7:30 p.m.| Bring your lawn chairs and take in the classic rock sounds of the Guppies at Northshore Park. But come early because in conjunction with the concert, the Woodlands Township will host the Seventh Annual Sand Castle Building Contest. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, and visit the Township tent for details. This event is appropriate for all ages. Bring your shovels, and sand will be provided. FREE.
