Cockfighters Run A Fowl Of The Law With 50 Arrested
Three men face state felony charges after deputies busted up a cockfighting ring outside of Pearland on Sunday

PEARLAND, TX — A tip to the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office of a suspected cockfighting ring resulted in the arrest of 50 people, and seizure of more than 160 fighitng rooster.
Law enforcement officers were called out on Sunday afternoon to an to a home in 17700 block of Wells Drive, on a tip of a possible illegal cockfighting operation outside of Pearland.
Deputies pulling up to the home notices a large number of vehicles outside the home.

According to a KTRK report, investigators charged Jesus Carlos Rueda, Herminio Leija and Ramirro Rivera with cock fighting, which is a state jail felony.
Forty-seven others were detained and could face misdemeanor cockfighting charges.

Deputies recovered about 50 dead roosters that were allegedly used in the cockfighting incident, while the remaining 165 roosters were taken to the Brazoria County Animal Control, who will determine what will happen with the fowl.
