Deputies Bust Illegal Game Room In Sugar Land

Investigators arrest two, confiscate 8-liner machines and cash in sting operation.

SUGAR LAND, TX -- The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office raided an illegal game room and detained 50 people during a sting operation Thursday afternoon.

Investigators closed down the Jungle Gym Game room at 9903 Highway 6 after reports of making cash payouts from 8-liners, which is illegal in Texas.

The machines aren’t illegal, but cash payouts to winners are.

Game rooms that deal in cash prizes attract a criminal element and are illegal as a result.

Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls said the game room has been operating illegally for several months.

“You’re supposed to win crock pots, coffee machines, and we know they’re not doing that. They’re paying out cash and that makes it illegal," Nehls told KPRC.

There were at least 50 people inside the game room when deputies came through the door and ordered operations to cease.

During the course of the investigation deputies allowed the customers to leave, but a security guard and the manager were arrested.

Deputies also confiscated thousands of dollars in cash from the the 8-liner machines, as well as confiscated the machines.
