Fort Bend Chamber Announces Mental Illness Program
The Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce's Healthcare Division will host 'Mental Illness: The Myths, The Facts and Business Costs' in Sugar Land.

SUGAR LAND, TX --The Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce’s Healthcare Division is hosting Mental Illness: The Myths, The Facts and Business Costs on Tuesday, May 23, from 11:30a.m.-1 p.m. at the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, 445 Commerce Green Blvd., Sugar Land, Texas.
George Patterson, CEO for Texana Center, will address major impacts that mental illness has on business environments, what mental illness is and the facts and myths surrounding mental illness. According to Forbes, “1 in 5 employees has a mental health problem,” (Forbes, 2017).
Patterson, CEO for Texana Center since May, 2000, is the first and only CEO the center has had. Prior to coming to Texana, he served as the Director of Operations for another community center in east Texas. He serves as an expert witness providing review and testimony in cases involving adverse patient outcomes such as suicide. Patterson currently serves as the chair of a statewide committee that presents quarterly seminars on current topics related to risk management and patient care. He also serves on the advisory board to the Texas Council Risk Management Fund, on the board of Mental Health America Fort Bend, and on the University of Houston School of Nursing Advisory Council.

The Healthcare Division of the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce is under the leadership of Chairman, Christy Medlin, HealthSouth. The mission of the Healthcare Division is to attract and develop the highest quality healthcare services for the Greater Fort Bend Area. The division will develop a network of healthcare providers businesses, providing them with information and education to enhance their professional and business development. The division helps identify and promote economic initiatives and innovations in healthcare which will benefit the membership and the community at large.
