Hello Everyone,

Find out what's happening in Sugar Landfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

I’m Acting Superintendent Diana Sayavedra and I want to sum up action the Board took at its regular Workshop Meeting Monday night.

In keeping with its top priority of safeguarding the health and safety of all students and staff, the Board voted in favor of mandating masks in Fort Bend ISD.

Administration is finalizing pro Our Stocols for how the requirement will be implemented, especially when it comes to issues like wearing masks outdoors, student activities such as band and choir, and for children with special needs.

Protocols for the District’s mask mandate will align with CDC guidance. Several community members, parents, and medical professionals shared their sentiments about the use of masks at the meeting. To those who may feel anxious about the requirement, please know we heard you. We appreciate the way all speakers calmly and responsibly expressed their views. It is my hope that we unite in the spirit of cooperation and support as we continue navigating the pandemic together.

Also, at the Board meeting, Trustees heard a comprehensive update from staff that included information about the District’s COVID-19 mitigation efforts and current data. We received information from our health and wellness team as well as updates from our medical advisory team. The staff also provided an update on the Virtual Learning Program launching on August 30.

In an effort to keep our community informed, an interactive COVID dashboard is now posted to the website. To maintain transparency, the Dashboard shows the number of positive cases in the District. For each school and department, the dashboard includes a breakdown showing the numbers of students and staff who test positive.

And the last thing I want to mention is a resolution the Board discussed to add five additional sick leave days for employees who are required to isolate after testing positive for COVID-19. This resolution is in keeping with the Board Goal to develop a culture that embraces care, respect, health, and safety. Trustees are scheduled to vote on the resolution at its regular meeting Monday, August 30.

I’m Diana Sayavedra and that Sums it Up!
