Grinch Steals Christmas Presents From Local Church, Pastor has Compassion

Donated presents were meant for parishioners who'd fallen on hard times.

KATY, TX -- The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a break in an area church that resulted in the theft of thousands of dollars in donated Christmas gifts, meant for parishioners who’d fallen on hard times.

Thieves broke into the Church of Holy Apostles on the Grand Parkway Sunday night, or early Monday morning, and stole about 40 donated Christmas presents worth several thousand dollars.

Investigators said the thief opened the presents first, leaving only the wrapping paper behind.

Pastor Darrel Profit told KPRC that the people responsible would only have needed to ask and would have received help from the church, and that despite the theft he feels only compassion for those responsible for the break in.

Those responsible for the burglary also ransacked a church office, and stole at least one iPad and caused about $1,000 in damages, church officials said.
