Houston Police Release Name Of Alleged Shooter In Girl's Murder

Jacobe Payton, 19, is being held in Fort Bend County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond, accused of killing De'Maree Adkins on Feb. 25.

FORT BEND COUNTY, TX -- The Houston Police have released the identity of the man who they believe is responsible for the shooting death of 8-year old De’Maree Adkins of Feb. 25

Investigators have charged 19-year old Jacobe Dante Payton with Adkins’ murder.

Payton is being held in the Fort Bend County jail with a $500,000 bail and is expected to see a magistrate this week, according to Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Bob Haenel.

LaToyia Thomas was driving home on Feb. 25, with her daughter De'Maree Adkins asleep in the backseat, when she was involved in a vehicle accident at West Fuqua and Beltway 8.

De'Maree Adkins was shot and killed dearly Saturday morning after a car accident in Fort Bend County. Her alleged killer was arrested earlier this week.

Thomas initially said a woman got out of the car she'd collided with, and began shooting at them, killing her daughter in the process.

On Wednesday, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, and Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo held a joint news conference to announce the arrest of a 19-year old man.
