Katy Cookie Store Reverses Suspension For Employee Who Paid For Cop’s Order
Employee was suspended after a family became upset when he would not pay for their cookie order

KATY, TX — A young man who was suspended from his job after paying for a food order for an on-duty police officer, is back on the job.
The young man, who is a juvenile, was working at the Great American Cookies at Katy Mills Mall on Sunday, was suspended after he willingly paid for the order if a police officer in uniform, upsetting the family waiting in line behind the officer.
When the family asked if he would be paying for their order too, the young man said, “I’m sorry. I bought his because he is wearing a badge.”

The next day, the young man received a text from work advising him to be prepared for a meeting at the store on Tuesday, the Houston Chronicle reported.
When he went back to work on Wednesday, he was reprimanded with a one-week suspension and warned if there was another incident, he’d be terminated.
His mother took to social media that, posting about the incident on her Facebook page.
By Thursday afternoon, the posting had been shared by more than 4,000 Facebook users.
As for the young man, Great American Cookies had a change of heart, and not only reversed its decision, but apologized to him and his family.
"On behalf of Great American Cookies Katy Mills, we owe the employee an apology. It was never an issue that he purchased a brownie for a police officer, but rather the events that unfolded with another customer in line at the time,” Biju George, VKC Refreshments, owner and operator of the Great American Cookies at Katy Mills Mall, said in a statement. “However, after further review, we realize that the employee was in fact in the right and we continue to reach out to him and his mom to issue an apology. The corrective action and suspension was reversed immediately and we hope to connect with him today."
