Katy ISD Police Officer Crowned Miss Texas United States

KATY, TX — A local police officer who is better known for protecting and serving the students in the Katy Independent School District, is getting attention for her work out of uniform.

Shannon Dresser, who serves as Miss Katy United States, was crowned Miss Texas United States at the at the Eisemann Center in Richardson, Texas Sunday night. Dresser, who has been competing in beauty pageants since she was a child, used her passion for baton twirling to open the door to pageants and has been doing it ever since, according to a KTRK report.

While pageants are a lot of fun or Dresser, her heart is in law enforcement and using her role as a police officer to mentor and encourage children.

One of her law enforcement passions is helping and mentoring at-risk students through a program called Teen and Police Service Academy, or TAPS — a 13-week international mentoring program that addresses a number of important topics, such as bullying, conflict management, and avoiding drug use and gangs, according to a report from Covering Katy.

Dresser, whose parents are both retired LAPD officers, said the pomp and fluff of the beauty pageants,and interaction and priorities of a law enforcement career together help keep her grounded.

"I'm really glad I can have those two worlds because I really think it does mold me and ground me, because it lets me be who I am," she told KTRK.
