Katy Muslim Community Hosts Day Of Solidarity
Day of Solidarity is designed to unite Muslims and non-Muslims.
KATY, TX -- Residents in Katy and the surrounding communities are is invited to participate in the Day of Solidarity observance that will held Friday, Jan. 6 at the Muslim American Society Katy Center, located at 1800 Baker Road, Houston.
The event will begin at 1:30 p.m., and is a concentrated effort to for the Muslim and non-Muslim communities to unite, and get to know and understand one another.
The Day of Solidarity attendees are invited to join the Muslim American Society for prayers at 1:30.

Modest dress is requested, head scarves are optional. Those attending prayers will need to wear socks, as shoes will need to be removed. Services last approximately 40 minutes.
"We greatly appreciate the support and show of solidarity from our brothers and sisters in humanity at a time when Muslim American communities have been subjected to worst kinds of misinformation, assumptions, and mistrust," Nafisa Munshi, from the MAS Outreach Committee told the Houston Chronicle. "Our mosque has always had its doors open for our neighbors and friends. This event will go a long way in helping people know their Muslim neighbors. “

Kristin Miller, a community organizer, recently attended a similar event at the Sugar Land Mosques and was inspired to bring that same love and support to the local Katy Islamic Center with the Day of Solidarity observance..
"The days of loving your neighbor from your couch are over! It's time to get out the door and show it," Miller said. "Hate is receiving too much press. It's time for love to be the headline of the day."
