Here are the top stories today in Sugar Land:
- Houston avoided the worst projections from Hurricane Nicholas as far as rainfall and flooding were concerned. The biggest impact came from power outages as over 500,000 people lost power. Most people's power was restored Tuesday, and Mayor Sylvester Turner expects full restoration by Wednesday. (Houston Patch)
- State Representative Jacey Jetton authored or sponsored 10 bills that passed during the regular session. (Fort Bend Herald)
- A group from Houston Methodist Sugar Land hospital won the Literacy Council Spelling Bee for adults as the "best spellers in Fort Bend County." (Fort Bend Herald)
- The path of Hurricane Nicholas shifted east late Monday, meaning Fort Bend County avoided the worst of the damage. The county reported no high water, some debris and power outages following the storm. (Community Impact Newspaper)
