Possible Tornado In Sealy Closes Schools, Overturns 18-Wheelers In Parking Lots

SEALY, TX — Severe storms and high winds rolling through Southeast Texas late Tuesday caused significant damage to homes and businesses in Sealy, located about 50 miles west of the Houston area.

Residents were left in the dark after powerline were snapped by high winds and homes and businesses were damaged, leaving many to believe that a small tornado may have touched down, although the National Weather Service has not confirmed a tornado. The storm also caused damage to Sealy High School resulting in school closures for Wednesday in Sealy ISD, and a delay for the start of classes in Brazosport ISD, KTRK reported.

Meanwhile, areas of Interstate 10, Highway 36, FM 3538, FM 3013 were hit the hardest by the storms, with power outages, uprooted trees, and damage to homes and several reports overturned 18-wheeler, KRIV-26 reported.

No injuries were reported from the storm, but there were long delays as traffic stacked on I-10 leaving some motorists stranded for as long a eight hours, KTRK reported.

In areas of nearby Fort Bend County, residents in Rosenberg reported golf ball size hail and sheet of rain, while the National Weather Services reported winds there between 60-70 miles per hour.
