Rosenberg Man Dies In Police Custody

Texas Rangers, Fort Bend County DA investigating man was found unresponsive in his cell Saturday morning.

ROSENBERG, TX -- The Texas Rangers and the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office are investigating the cause of a death of a man who died in custody Saturday.

Roberto Velasquez, 39, was found unresponsive in his cell during a cell check early Saturday morning.

Velasquez was taken by EMS to Oak Bend Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to police, Velasquez was at the scene of an assault investigation, and was taken into custody when police discovered he had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in a child neglect case.

Velasquez was arrested and taken to the city jail without incident.

When officers made their rounds shortly after 8 a.m., they found Velasquez unresponsive in his cell, according to police.

The cause of Velasquez death has not been released.
