Stafford Woman Is Run Over, Killed While Waiting In Line At Food Pantry

Witnesses said driver of the SUV appeared to hit accelerator instead of the brake while pulling into parking lot

STAFFORD, TX -- A woman is dead, and another in the hospital after they were both run over by an SUV as they waited in line to register for holiday food baskets at an area food pantry.

The accident happened just before 11 a.m. Monday at the East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry at 435 Stafford Run Road.

Police said an elderly driver was pulling into the parking lot of the food pantry, when she hit the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the SUV to plow into the people on the sidewalk.

Blanca Garcia was killed instantly.

Another woman who was hit by the SUV was injured and taken to a local hospital, and is expected to recover, according to police.

The driver of the SUV remained at the scene, and was later taken to the hospital suffering with chest pains.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
