Sugar Land Officials Issue Shelter In Place Order As Fire Produces Thick Black Smoke

Officials report pallets and several cars are n fire at a business at Richmond Gaines and Bissonnet.

SUGAR LAND, TX -- Officials have issued a shelter in place order for residents within a half mile of a massive fire that is producing thick black smoke.

Fire officials said that pallets and vehicles at a business along Richmond Gaines Road and Bissonnet Street were burning, but that no injuries have been reported so far.

Firefighters were called to the 9700 block of Richmond Gaines Road at about 2:15 p.m. for a fire, and are still at the scene.

Witnesses have reported hearing explosions, which may have been the cars that fire officials said are burning.

Law Enforcement officials have closed roads in the area as part of the shelter in place order.
