TxDOT Studying Access Roads Additions to Grand Parkway

Sugar Land segments were built 22 years ago, before much of the commercial and residential growth began to occur

SUGAR LAND, TX -- The Texas Department of Transportation is considering improvements to the the Grand Parkway, and has begun studying Segment D if any are necessary.

One of the possible improvement projects could be the addition of feeder roads to Segment D, which covers a 17.4-mile stretch of road from Interstate 69 in Sugar Land to Interstate 10 in Katy.
Segment D of the Grand Parkway was completed in 1994 and the first segment of the Grand Parkway, which now connects to U.S. 290 in Cypress, Interstate 45 in The Woodlands and I-69 north of Kingwood.

When TxDOT built segment D 22 years ago, frontage roads were not deemed a necessity at the time, but the growth has made that change necessary.

“When it was completed, and even when it was studied back in the [1970s], frontage roads were not considered because of the times,” TxDOT Spokesperson Deidrea George told Community Impact News. “Twenty-plus years ago, it was country out there.”

George said connectivity would be better with continuous frontage roads, but that results from the study will not be made public until they are finalized. A timeline has not yet been determined, she said.
