Voter Turnout Light in Sugar Land

Most credit heavy voter turnout during early voting fr shorter lines

SUGAR LAND, TX -- Early voting in Sugar Land has taken a bite out the long lines in some areas south of south of Houston making way or election day voters to get in and out of the voting booth quickly.

Reginald Smith, 24, was on a lunch break to cast his ballot in the Missouri City neighborhood of Chasewood, and was in and out in about 15 minutes, he said.

"It was quick," he said. "I got lucky, I guess."

Smith said that while he voted for Clinton, he wished there were better choices to elect as the next president.

"In all honesty, I wished I didn't have to vote because I didn't like either one of them," he said.

Smith, who supported Hillary Clinton, said he was worried about issues with the voting machines, based on news reports in recent days but he didn't have any problems at his location.

Carla Simmons, 22, who voted with her mother for the first time, said she'd been worried her vote as well.

"This is an important election," she said. "I want my vote to count for something."

Walter Inman was standing outside the voting area handing out literature to support the Democratic candidates.

Inman said the traffic going in hadn't been too heavy.

"I'm guessing there have been about 260 all day and only about 50 or 60 since about noon," he said.

Polls close at 7 p.m.
