Voters Re-elect Nehls as Top Cop, Elect Morales to County Seat

Sheriff Troy Nehls defeated Michael Ellison, while Commissioner Richard Morrison lost his bid to former Mayor Vincent Morales

FORT BEND COUNTY, TX -- Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls won his red-election bid or sheriff, and defeated veteran lawman Michael Ellison, winning 53 percent of the votes cast in Tuesday's general election.

It was the second go-around for Nehls and Ellison who faced each other in the 2012 election.

While Nehls remains Fort Bend County's top cop, voters did make a change in the county commissioner's race with former Rosenberg Mayor Vincent Morales defeating Commissioner Richard Morrison, who'd held that seat since 2008.

Morales, who drove economic development in Rosenberg as mayor, vowed to do the same for the constituents of Precinct 1.

"By serving as Precinct 1 commissioner, I can continue my focus on economic development and vital infrastructure on a larger scale. I am committed to making certain that our community will be a viable place to live, work and educate our children and grandchildren for years to come, and by serving as Precinct 1 commissioner, I can do just that," he said.
