Woman Is Killed By Hit And Run Driver On I-69 In Richmond

Witnesses said a red car traveling north veered off the road, hitting the woman who was walking on the shoulder of the freeway.

RICHMOND, TX -- The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating an apparent hit and run accident that happened on Interstate 69 near Williams Way early Wednesday.

Deputies were called to the area at about 3:15 a.m. after a witness reported seeing a woman hit by a red car or SUV.

The woman died at the scene, and still has not been identified.

The witness told investigators they were driving north on I-69 behind the red vehicle, when they said the car veered to the side of the roadway and hit the woman who was walking on the shoulder of the freeway.

The red car, which authorities said sustained some front end damage when the accident occurred, drove off, but was later founded at a home not far from the accident.

Deputies they are speaking with witnesses at this time.

Charges have not yet been filed.
