1. $6.5B Blue Energy proposal remain undecided (victoriaadvocate.com) — Victoria County leaders are still weighing Blue Energy's request for six major tax abatements tied to a proposed small modular nuclear reactor near the Port of Victoria. Supporters tout billions in taxable value and thousands of jobs, while residents raise concerns about Bloomington's growth, environmental risks, and how an AI data center and new workers could reshape surrounding communities.
2. Education Freedom Account program boosts private school enrollment (crossroadstoday.com) — Families in Victoria can now use Texas' new Education Freedom Account program to receive over $10,000 per eligible private school student for the 2026-27 year, and local enrollment is already surging. Faith Academy reports 137 new students using the program and a total increase of 290 students, leaving elementary grades nearly full and secondary grades quickly filling.
3. Grupo Lokura and Amanda Solis To Perform in Victoria for Night Tunes (klubtejano.com) — Downtown Victoria will host a free Night Tunes street dance on Friday, Sept. 4, at DeLeon Plaza, featuring Grupo Lokura and Amanda Solis in a Hispanic Heritage-themed show. Residents can expect family-friendly Tejano and cumbia music, including a Selena tribute and the youngest Martinez family member performing live for the first time here.
4. Poste scores twice as Jaguars battle Schreiner to 3-3 draw in season opener (crossroadstoday.com) — Texas A&M–Victoria's women's soccer team opened its season at The Cage in Victoria with a 3-3 draw against Schreiner, highlighted by two goals from Emily Poste. Despite leading twice and outshooting Schreiner, the Jaguars couldn't find a late winner and now look ahead to a road trip to Waxahachie and the men's home opener Thursday.
5. League of Women Voters marks Women's Equality Day in Victoria (crossroadstoday.com) — Women's Equality Day was celebrated Wednesday at DeLeon Plaza in downtown Victoria, where the League of Women Voters highlighted women's voting rights and honored influential local female leaders. Texas A&M University–Victoria President Christian Hardigree headlined the event, which mixed cultural performances with calls to uplift and support women in the community.
