Heart of Texas Fair aims to keep family fun affordable despite rising diesel costs (kxxv.com) — The Heart of Texas Fair at Waco's Extraco Events Center is kicking off with organizers working to keep tickets and activities affordable despite higher diesel costs hitting exhibitors and schools. More than 10,000 young exhibitors are expected, with over $250,000 in premiums and scholarships on the line. Families can use the fair's app to find discounts, schedules, and event details before heading out.
2. Waco Police asking for help finding missing woman (kcentv.com) — Waco Police are asking residents to help find 40-year-old Marisa Galindo, who has been reported missing and whose last known location and clothing are unknown. She is described as 4-foot-11 with brown hair and brown eyes. If you've seen her or know anything about where she might be, you're urged to call 911 or Waco Police at 254-750-7500.
3. Pink for a Purpose: Waco businesses team up to fight breast cancer (kcentv.com) — Waco businesses are turning pink all October to fund free mammograms and biopsies for uninsured and underinsured Central Texas women through Ascension Providence's Pink Partner Fund. Local spots like Jorge's Cantina, Cha Community's downtown Waco cafe, and NuGenesis Medical Spa are donating portions of sales, with more events listed in the foundation's Pink Partner materials.
4. Baylor University Music Student Excited About Being Selected for League's Artistic Administration Intensive (symphony.org) — A Baylor University music student in Waco has been selected for a prestigious League of American Orchestras intensive in New York, where she'll study artistic planning and community engagement. She already works 15 hours a week with the Waco Symphony, and says she's eager to bring new skills back to strengthen Waco's local music community and behind-the-scenes arts leadership.
5. Waco Lake remains 2.5 feet below normal levels despite recent rainfall (kxxv.com) — Despite last week's rain, Waco Lake is still about 2.5 feet below normal, limiting the water available for release into the Bosque and Brazos rivers. A park ranger says the parched ground soaked up much of the rainfall, and officials are now counting on a wetter El Niño winter to restore levels before next recreation season.
