• Founders Cup brings tennis players together for a day of doubles competition in The Woodlands (hellowoodlands.com) — Tennis players in The Woodlands can sign up now for the 3rd Annual Founders Cup doubles tournament, set for Saturday, October 17 at The Woodlands Township tennis courts. Open to players 16 and older, the all-day event features round-robin play by skill level, event swag, and lunch, with registration closing October 7 and space limited.
   

• CARE study reports complete regression of liver cancer in a child treated with novel immunotherapy (texaschildrens.org) — Families in The Woodlands connected to Texas Children's Hospital can take heart from a new report showing complete regression of liver cancer in a child treated with an experimental CAR T-cell therapy. The case, led by Texas Children's and Baylor researchers, suggests this novel immunotherapy might offer a future option for hard-to-treat pediatric tumors, though it's still in early trials.
   

• Portage appoints Karen Dempsey-Horan as next city manager (wwmt.com) — The Woodlands Township's chief administrative officer, Karen Dempsey-Horan, has been tapped to become the next city manager of Portage, Michigan, starting November 2. Her departure means The Woodlands will soon lose a key leader with nearly 30 years of municipal experience, potentially prompting leadership changes and a search process at the township.
