2. 13 Cooper Seniors named Commended Students in 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program (hellowoodlands.com) — Thirteen seniors at The John Cooper School in The Woodlands have been named Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program, placing them among about 34,000 top scorers nationwide. School leaders say the recognition reflects years of academic dedication and aligns with Cooper's mission to foster curiosity, leadership, and lifelong learning.
3. Thousands of gallons of cooking oil spill on I-45 near The Woodlands (houstonchronicle.com) — Drivers in The Woodlands area faced major delays after an 18-wheeler carrying cooking oil caught fire around 6 a.m. on I-45 near Rayford Road, spilling over 5,000 gallons and closing several southbound lanes. TxDOT crews say the non-hazardous oil spread into drainage areas, backing traffic up toward Conroe while they worked for hours to clear and reopen the roadway.
4. Texas Children's Pioneers Novel In-Utero Approach for Complex Gastroschisis Through Ongoing Clinical Trial (texaschildrens.org) — Families in The Woodlands may be interested that Texas Children's, which operates a full children's hospital in The Woodlands, is running a clinical trial on a new in‑utero surgery for complex gastroschisis. The investigational procedure, regulated by the FDA, aims to improve survival and recovery for severely affected babies, and enrollment remains open to eligible families worldwide.
