Chevron Phillips, TAME Bringing STEM To Pasadena Area Schools

Chevron Phillips and the TAME Trailblazer will host its largest number of 6th Graders to foster STEM education.

PASADENA, TX β€” Chevron Phillips Chemical Company and the Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering (TAME) are bringing a little bit of science, math and engineering to 6th graders in southeast Texas this fall with TAME's traveling Trailblazer.

TAME’s traveling Trailblazer consists of a 40-foot trailer packed full of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) exhibits. (Want to get daily news updates and other events going on in your area? Sign up for the free Pasadena Patch morning newsletter.)

Within the course of an hour, approximately 200 students will get to experience the wonders of science through activities focused on energy, space, weather, biotechnology/ medicine and aerodynamics.

Chevron Phillips Chemical has sponsored school visits from the TAME Trailblazer since 2014, and this year will host its largest number of visits to sixth graders near five of its facilities.

β€œThe TAME Trailblazer is a terrific way to support students’ interest in STEM education using innovative experiments and displays,” said Roy Watson, workforce development and training manager at Chevron Phillips Chemical. β€œThe petrochemical industry is full of job opportunities, many of which are tied to STEM-related fields. The Trailblazer allows students to discover whether or not a STEM education might be a good fit for them and their career aspirations.”

The TAME Trailblazer will begin its Houston-area tour on Oct. 23 and run through Nov. 16, with visits in Baytown, Pasadena, Sweeny and Orange, TX.

Chevron Phillips Chemical’s Port Arthur facility also participates in the TAME Trailblazer program through the company’s membership in the Port Arthur Industrial Group.
