Cinco De Mayo Weekend: Things Happening In Houston

HOUSTON, TX — Cinco De Mayo in Houston and the rest of the U.S., holds a far different meaning than it does for our neighbors to the south.

In Mexico, it is a celebration for the historic battle for Mexican Independence from France in 1862, but for us Americans, it just reason to eat a lot, imbibe in copious amounts of Mexican beer and margaritas and generally have fun.

There will be dozens of Cinco de Mayo celebrations all over the Houston area, but if you're looking for other things to do in other communities this weekend. Patch has you covered.

Sugar Land

Wild West Brew Fest| Friday-Saturday| Katy TX| This event will feature 110+ Specialty Craft Brewers bringing in over 500 different beers for you to choose from. There will be VIP access to our event for your VIPs as well as specific locations within the event for your guests to relax and enjoy the wide ranges of beers that will be represented at our event. There will also be several restaurants open during the event such that you can enjoy a wide array of food if you do not hold a VIP ticket.

Cinco de Mayo Family Fiesta at Sienna Plantation| Missouri City| Saturday 5-9 p.m.| Musical performances by Yelba Heaton and Latin Fire, as well as Mariachi Los Gallitos, will be highlights of the event happening at Sienna's Sawmill Lake model home park, 9803 Cameron Way. Latin-inspired food truck fare will be available for purchase and a margarita tent will have beverages for purchase for those ages 21 and up. Younger attendees will enjoy a pony carousel and rock wall. Mechanical bull riding and a beverage donkey add to the fun. Visitors are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets. Admission is free.

Woodlands
Rails and Tails Mudbug Festival| Saturday|Tomball, TX |This day-long event is a celebration of tasty crawfish through music, food and fun at the historic downtown depot. Scheduled to perform are The Fab 5, Waylon Thibodeaux, John Evans, and Bayou Roux. Vendors, kids zone and more. Free admission and parking. Gates open at 11 a.m.

Texas Taco, Tequila, and Margarita Festival|The Woodlands Preservation Park|Saturday|This event will feature the best tacos, tequila and margaritas from Texas as well as live performances by Gio Chamba, Mariachi Bands and more.

Waterway Nights| The Woodlands| Saturday 6:30-8:30| Enjoy live music by local and regional performers in the picturesque setting of Waterway Square at Waterway Nights. Taking place in the spring and summer, Waterway Nights makes for an eventful night out in The Woodlands Town Center.

Humble
Lake Houston Catfish and Cars Community Festival| Saturday 11-3| Humble, TX | Free| Event will include classic cars, a kids zone, dunking booth, live and silent auction, music and food. The event is free and is sponsored by The Humble Rotary Club.

The Groves| Saturday 3-6| The Groves, one of Houston’s most sought-after, master-planned communities, located in northeast Houston, a will host a grand opening to celebrate The Hearth Amenity Center on May 5. The Hearth Amenity Center features a resort-style pool, event pavilion, great lawn, hammocks, an outdoor fireplace and a creek overlook, creating a central gathering place for Groves residents. Residents and the public are invited to join the free, Cinco de Mayo-themed grand opening celebration, which will include food trucks, music, games, drinks, giveaways and more family-friendly activities.

Houston
Cinco de Mayo At Market Square| Saturday|Houston| Guests can enjoy a concert in the park and dance along to live music from Houston favorite Los Skarnales. Niko Niko’s will serve ice-cold cerveza, and guests are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs for lounging on the lawn. Houston’s Hire Youth Event| Mayor Turner's Hire Houston Youth program kicked off a series of six “on the spot” hiring events on April 14 to provide summer jobs and internship opportunities to local youth ages 16-24. The events are open to the public and do not require applicants to pre-register or be pre-screened. The hiring events take place on select Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at locations around the city, including: Sterling High School on May 5. For more information click here.

Flights of Fancy Gala| Lone Star Flight Museum| Saturday|The Gala, co-chaired by Diane and Steve Biegel and Lisa and Russell Sherrill, will treat guests to full access of the Museum’s world-class exhibits, interactive displays and renowned flying collection of historic aircraft. This milestone event presents a unique opportunity for guests to mix and mingle among aviation legends and rare aircraft. An elegant, seated dinner and the Hall of Fame induction ceremony will precede a live auction and evening of entertainment and dancing by The Grooves.

Nature Center Without Walls at Mischer-Kickerillo Preserve| Spring| Saturday 9-2|Learn about the wildlife at the preserve from a naturalist.
