Ice Cream Beer Floats Are Great For Beating The Summer Heat

TOMBALL, TX — Yes, beer floats are a thing, and yes, they actually can taste pretty good provided you mix them just right.

Last year, the beer float became something of a regular at the Beetles, Brew & Barbecue festival held each September in Tomball, but with temps already hovering near the century mark in some places, a cool adult beverage treat is surely called for.

Eight Houston-area craft breweries entered the competition featuring a craft beer from their own line, ice cream and a variety of extras.

The winning ice cream beer float came from Southern Star Brewing in Conroe with its “Black Crack Float” featuring Buried Hatchet Stout.

Here are four of the top recipe entries to make the summertime heat more “beerable”.

“Black Crack Float” from Southern Star Brewing
2 scoops of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream
6 oz. of Southern Star Buried Hatched Stout
½ oz of TX brand Texas Bourbon
Handful of crumbled candied pecans on top

“Santo Floato” from Saint Arnold Brewing
3 scoops of vanilla ice cream
1 can of Saint Arnold Santo Black Kolsch
1 churro stick
Cajeta

“Undead Head Ed” from Lone Pint Brewing
3 scoops of vanilla ice cream
Ghost Chili Porter
Caramel and chocolate sauce
Top with raspberries

“Weisse Versa Float” from Karbach Brewing
3 scoops of vanilla ice cream
Weisse Versa Wheat brew
A dash of nutmeg
