Klein Cain High School Opens Doors For The First Time

KLEIN, TX — The graduating class of 2020 is set to take its first steps into Klein Cain High School on Aug. 21, 2017, when the doors open to roughly 1,450 ninth and tenth-grade students.

On Aug. 8, 2016, the Klein ISD Board of Trustees unanimously named High School #5 Klein Cain High School after former Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jim Cain, who retired from the district after 35 years of service, and more than 47 total years in public education.

Under his leadership, three bonds successfully passed totaling more than one billion dollars in improvements for our students and the district.

The Klein Cain principal, Nicole Patin, began her first day on the job on Aug. 11, 2016, where she spent her first day taking a tour of the campus. Before Klein Cain High School, Patin served as the principal at Doerre Intermediate and as an assistant and associate principal at Klein High School.

Before moving to Klein ISD, she also served as an assistant principal in Pearland ISD. Prior to her career in administration, she taught biology, anatomy, and physiology, and coached the women’s soccer teams at Westside High School, Clear Creek High School, and Dawson High School after playing at the collegiate level herself.

“It takes a lot to build a new school,” said Patin. “There is so much to do, and you know that you only have one chance to get this right. I wanted to make sure I was a good steward of my resources to ensure the students were getting an amazing educational experience.”

The first order of business was to begin meeting with future Klein Cain students to select school colors and a mascot.

This task gave the first classes of students something historic to do as the campus began building the Klein Cain legacy.

Patin met with students in different focus groups to get their opinions, and on Aug. 21, 2016, the school colors and mascot were announced.

Students and staff would be the Klein Cain High School Hurricanes and would show their pride through purple, silver, black, and white.

But beyond colors and a mascot, a building had to be built and furnished. Patin picked out paint, tile, carpet, furniture, graphics, and more to adorn the school. Also, 160 staff members were hired throughout this process.

“It was a challenge making sure that each employee was the right fit and that their educational philosophy and vision matched what we wanted for the students,” said Patin.

Students attending Klein Cain High School will have access to a state-of-the-art facility that exposes them to an educational experience full of collaboration, innovation, and risk taking.

The campus features classrooms with glass walls that retract to open into large collaboration spaces. Every classroom features flexible seating to maximize the student’s learning needs and styles.

“These ninth and tenth graders will have an incredible opportunity to be leaders from day one,” said Patin. “They will be the ones who will establish the culture, build traditions, and make Klein Cain a fantastic place.”

With the opening of a new high school comes new and exciting experience for both students and staff. The first day is going to be one they all remember, forever.
