LSC-Tomball, Tomball ISD Sign Ceremonial Agreement for Tomball Star Academy
Agreement allows incoming freshman students to start earning high school diploma and an associates degree at the same time.

TOMBALL, TX -- The Tomball Independent School School District and Lone Star College-Tomball signed an ceremonial agreement that will usher in the Tomball Star Academy for fall 2017, allowing incoming freshman to start earning an associates degree with their high school diploma.
Dr. Lee Ann Nutt, president of LSC-Tomball, and Huey Kinchen, superintendent of schools for Tomball ISD, signed the agreement Jan. 24 at the LSC-Tomball campus.
The agreement between the college district and the school district to bring an early college program into existence has been in the works since mid-2016, and will mirror similar programs in use in Cy-Fair ISD and Spring ISD, which have relationships with other Lone Star College campuses in their area.

Students who will be enrolled in the Tomball Star Academy will come from the new crop of eighth graders who will be freshman students in 2017-2018.
Students admitted into the Tomball Star Academy must meet academic standards, must have met acceptable standards on the STAAR test, and must continually maintain acceptable behavior standards.

Those students much also apply with an authentic essay.
The students, which will number between 100 and 125, will attend the academy at the Tomball High School campus, and will be subjected to a rigorous academic program that will not only allow the student to earn their high school diploma, but 60 college credit hours toward an Associates of Arts Degree, free of charge.
Parents of academy students will have to attend two information sessions this spring before their child is admitted to the program.
Students in the program will have commit to an academically rigorous schedule and will not be able to participate in many extracurricular activities.
