Northwoods Presbyterian Church Hosts Homelessness Community Forum

SPRING, TX — A growing question in the 1960 corridor is, “what helps and what harms the homeless”? Is giving a panhandler a few dollars a kind gesture that will fill an empty belly or a crutch to continue a cycle of homelessness? How does the locality balance business profitability, property values and road beautification with our neighbor’s needs?

Join the Community Outreach Forum at Northwoods Presbyterian Church on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 5:30pm to tackle the tough topic of how to best assist the local homeless population.

Hear directly from professional representatives of organizations that work every day trying to combat homelessness and help those in need.

The dedicated and passionate leaders scheduled to attend include Northwest Assistance Ministries President and CEO Carole Little, Coalition for the Homeless President and CEO Marilyn Brown, Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homeless Outreach Team (H.O.T.), 1960 Hope Center Executive Director Bob Butler, H.O.P.E. Haven Executive Director Kristyn Stillwell and Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce President Barbara Thomason.

This diverse panel will educate the forum on what their organization does, the current homeless situation in the Cypress Creek area, what the community can do to help as well as answer questions from the public. Those in attendance are encouraged learn about volunteer opportunities for all ages and how you can make a difference in our community.
