Property Reappraisals Underway In Montgomery County

THE WOODLANDS, TX — The Montgomery County Appraisal District is slowly and methodically reappraising homes and business properties severely impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

Local entities, such as The Woodlands Township, Montgomery County and Emergency Services District 8 have all called for property reappraisals, and last month the Montgomery City Council followed the lead of other communities and approved a resolution to allow for some properties severely impacted by the storm to be reappraised.

Hurricane Harvey, which made landfall near Rockport on Aug. 25, was a tropical storm by the time it began impacting areas of Montgomery County, north of the Houston area.

Northern Montgomery County, which is not accustomed to tropical storms, received 30 inches of rain in some areas, and caused damage to thousands of homes from severe flooding.

Farther south in The Woodlands, communities in Creekside Forest and Creekside Park, saw significant damage from flooding from nearby Cypress Creek.

Since early September, the Montgomery County Appraisal District have begun the reappraisal of some homes and examined more than 2,700 homes that were impacted by flooding or other damages from Harvey, the Conroe Courier reported..

Meanwhile, two new disaster recovery centers have opened in Montgomery County to provide support for homeowners and businesses, KPRC reported.
