Mother Of 'Little Jacob' Identified, Arrested

The mother of Jayden Lopez, who was found dead on a Galveston beach in October and recently identified, has been arrested.

GALVESTON, TX — The mother of Jayden Lopez, a 4-year-old Houston boy recently identified after being found on a Galveston beach last year in October, has been arrested, according to reports. Lopez was known as "Little Jacob" until authorities were able to identify him.

Rebecca Rivera, 34, and her 31-year-old girlfriend Dania Gomez, were responsible for Jayden's care when he died, Galveston Police Chief Vernon Hale said, Click2Houston reports. The boy's autopsy suggests that he was dead before his body was put into the water, where police believe was for 12 hours to two days.

"It is believed that both of them were present when he was dead, and that both of them came to Galveston and dumped his body," Hale said.

Bryan Gaines of the FBI said nobody reported Jayden missing and that nobody was looking for him. "Jayden has no advocate other than us," Gaines said, Click2Houston reports.

Both Rivera and Gomez are being held at the Galveston County Jail on bonds of $250,000 to $100,000, respectively.
