Texas Medical Board Suspends Woodlands ER Doctor Who Allegedly Treated Patients While Drunk
Staff noticed doctor was acting strangely and appeared to be intoxicated while treating patients: Texas Medical Board

THE WOODLANDS, TX — The Texas Medical Board has suspended the license of a Woodlands area physician accused of practicing medicine while legally drunk.
Dr. Gregory Gibbons, an emergency room physician who practices at CHI Baylor St. Luke’s Emergency Center in Montgomery and CHI Baylor St. Luke's Hospital in the Woodlands, was suspended on May 12 pending the outcome of an investigation.
According to a press release issued by the Texas Medical Board, Gibbons was working the day shift at CHI Baylor St. Luke’s Emergency Center in Montgomery on April 19, when he began to show signs of intoxication, and “was acting strangely in his behavior (and) treatment of patients…”

During his shift, Gibbons was discovered passed out in the doctor’s sleeping room, according to a KTRK report. (Want to get daily updates about traffic news and other events going on in your area? Sign up for the free Houston Patch morning newsletter.)
According to a KPRC report, Hospital officials ordered a blood draw from Gibbons, which came back with a result of .293, more than three times over the legal limit.

CHI Baylor St. Luke’s Hospital issued the following statement:
While we do not discuss any specific medical staff or credentialing status matters, we do have policies and procedures in place to ensure that medical staff review committees take appropriate action when dealing with concerns affecting the care provided to patients."
The suspension, which is temporary, will remain in place until the Texas Medical Board determines an appropriate course of action, officials said.
