Tomball Police Arrest Three Men who Shot Up Woman’s Car at Busy Intersection

TOMBALL, TX -- Three men are in the Harris County Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly after the men allegedly attempted to rob two women at gunpoint, shooting one of them in the face.

On Wednesday at about 2a.m., police were called to a shooting at the intersection of FM 2920 and the Tomball Expressway.

While they were on their way, police received another call that the shooting victim was at Tomball Regional Hospital.

The victim, identified as Yvone Gomez, told investigators that she and her mother were traveling north on the Tomball Expressway feeder lanes, and stopped at the traffic light.

Gomez said that three men, who were driving a black GMC Yukon, pulled up in front of their car.

Gomez said that one of the men got out of the Yukon on the passenger side of the vehicle, pointed a gun at them, and began shooting.

"He had the gun like this, and he was coming to my car. And that's when Yvone held up her hand and said no," Yvone’s mother Pamela DeLaPaz told KPRC.

Police have not said how many shots were fired into the front of the woman’s car, but one of the bullets hit Yvone Gomez in the cheek, and exited through the top of her head.

Miraculously, she was not severely injured and was treated with stitches to her face and head, and released.

Meanwhile, other officers were searching for the shooters, and found the Yukon at the Academy Store parking lot in the 14000 block of FM 2920.

When officers were approaching the Yukon, three men inside the SUV, got out and ran, but were all quickly caught.

Police arrested Richard Gonzales, 23, of Baytown, Jose Cruz, 21, of Houston, and Christian Barrera, 20, of Houston.

Police also recovered a 9mm handgun inside the Yukon.

All three men were taken to the Tomball Police Department where they were booked into jail and charged with Evading Detention and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Police suspect that the three men could be responsible for other crimes in the Houston area and are asking anyone with any information to contact Detective Jimmy Harral of the Tomball Police Department at 281-290-1311.
