Tomball Unveils Model Train Exhibit At German Christmas Market

Though not intended to be an exact replica of the city, several of the buildings and landmarks in the display are Tomball's representatives.

From The City of Tomball: More than 750 train loving festival goers toured the new Tomball & Walden Model Railway recently during the annual Tomball German Christmas Market at the City’s historic downtown depot.

Still under construction, the T&W Model Railway is more than 110-square feet of rolling “O” scale Lionel fun for all ages. Though not intended to be an exact replica of the City, several of the buildings and landmarks in the display are representative of Tomball’s past. The Beckendorf & Sons dairy farm, Klein Feed Store and Klein Bank, Brautigam’s IGA grocery store, Tomball Furniture Company, a Humble Oil Company oil rig, and other structures are displayed among the rolling hills, tunnels and flatlands.

Scheduled for completion next spring, the T&W Model Railway is located inside the old caboose just south of the depot building at 201 South Elm Street, and will be open weekends and by appointment. Admission will be free.

Tomball is 28-miles northwest of downtown Houston on FM 2920 at Highway 249. For more information, please call 281-351-5484, email mbaxter@tomballtx.gov, or visit “Tomball Texan For Fun” on Facebook.
