Township Race Brings New Faces to the Board

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Voters in the Woodlands Township who were spurred to the polls for fear of higher taxes that would come as a result of an earlier than expected incorporation, answered by electing a slate of candidates endorsed by a local Tea Party group.

Incumbent Gordy Bunch, and candidates John Anthony Brown, Bruce Rieser, and Brian Boniface, were all endorsed by Residents Advocates, and each won their races for township board positions.

Only Boniface faced an incumbent challenger, defeating Mike Bass 53 to 47 percent.

Voters were motivated by the prospect of skyrocketing taxes that many were led to believe would come if the board of trustees decided to incorporate before 2057, which was spread through mailers and advertising by the non-profit group, known as The Woodlands Concerned Taxpayers.

The same group expressed support for a number of candidates, that
include Bass, Amy Lampman, Stuart Schroeder and Chris Grice, who were all defeated.

While this race took center stage in Montgomery County, other races on the ballot included
Rand Henderson who ran unopposed for Montgomery County Sheriff, and will replace the retiring Sheriff’ Tommy Gage.

And Montgomery County Pct. 1 Commissioner Mike Meador and Pct. 3 Commissioner James Noack who also ran unopposed.
