Car Chase And Shoot-Out Puts Four Suspects In The Hospital

According to the VIPD, St. Croix officers were involved in a car chase and an ensuing shoot-out with suspects. No officers were injured.

ST. CROIX, USVI — A high-speed car chase followed by a police shoot-out on St. Croix on Friday put four suspects in the hospital. No police were injured in the shoot-out.

According to the V.I. Police Department, officers noticed the vehicle, a white 2019 Kia Sportage, while on patrol in downtown Frederiksted on the evening of July 30. They identified it as the same car reported stolen in a robbery on July 4. Officers said when they approached the vehicle, the driver took off.

During the ensuing police chase, the VIPD said the driver of the stolen vehicle lost control and crashed in Estate La Grange. The four suspects reportedly exited the car and opened fire on the pursuing officers. Police say a shoot-out ensued with officers returning fire, striking all four male suspects.

One of the suspects is 19 years old and three are 17 years old. All four were transported and treated at the Juan Francisco Luis Hospital & Medical Center for injuries and gunshot wounds. Two of the minor suspects were treated and released to the custody of their parents, pending court proceedings. The other minor and adult male were admitted for further treatment.

Police did not say if charges have been filed.
