1,800+ Counterfeit Viagra Pills Seized, Authorities Say
Counterfeit Viagra pills were confiscated from a ferry passenger coming from Santo Domingo. Faulty motorcycle helmets were also found.
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO— U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized 1,869 counterfeit Viagra pills and 1,620 half-face motorcycle helmets in the Port of San Juan.
A ferry passenger traveling from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic was attempting to smuggle the counterfeit Viagra before they were discovered by CBP officers. The value of the same amount of genuine Viagra pills is $128,866, though the counterfeit pills likely would have been sold for less.
“Consumers and small resellers purchase counterfeit products knowing the intrinsic value that these brands represent,” Leida Colon, assistant director of field operations for trade, said in a statement.
CBP officers also detained a shipment of half-face motorcycle helmets. The helmets do not comply with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regulations.
Colon added, “Also consumers should be aware that safety regulations ensure that products meet quality standards to protect them from under par products.”
