🌱 Four Shot, Two Dead in STX Shooting + More

The quickest way to get caught up news, events and more in the USVI.

The territory has tallied the first homicides of 2o22. But in some good news, there's a new program to help teenagers and young adults overcome drug habits. Those stories and more below.

Now it's not news, but there's a new VI sport to cheer on. Check out the U.S. Virgin Islands Lacrosse team. Founded in 2019, the team has grown into a force to be reckoned with in just a few years. In July they are headed to Medellin, Colombia for the 2022 Pan American Lacrosse Association’s qualifying tournament for the 2023 World Championships.   • The Village launched a new program aimed at helping teens and young adults struggling with substance abuse. The program, called Adolescents in Recovery and Community Connections, offers a 12-week session followed by ongoing after-care, including family check-ins as well as help accessing food stamps and finding a job.   • Four men were shot and two minors were killed in a deadly shoot-out on St. Croix, say police. The victims who died were found in a vehicle parked outside the hospital. No suspects are in custody, via USVI Patch.

  • A man was shot Monday evening near the fire station in Estate Bordeaux, St. Thomas. According to police, they received reports of shots fired and a man down at 5:46 p.m. The victim was taken to Schneider Regional Medical Center in a private vehicle, where he officers that he was in the area when he heard gunshots, then realized he was shot in the leg. The victim said he did not see who shot him and declined to give any further information, via The Source.
