🌱Slew of Scholarships For VI Students + Weekend Events Calendar

Good morning and get ready for the weekend. But first, here are a few of the stories I'm following. And don't miss today's events or the weekend event line-up.
- A man is facing assault charges after he allegedly assaulted two police officers who attempted to detain him, leading to one officer being hospitalized. via the V.I. Consortium.
- The V.I. Board of Education is offering more than 20 scholarships to V.I. students. The scholarships range in value from $625 to $5,000 for pursuing higher education in agriculture, animal husbandry, aviation, computer science, international affairs, journalism and health-related fields. Via the V.I. Consortium.
- The V.I. Port Authority Board debated Chairperson Leona Smith’s eligibility to remain on the board. Smith was elected as board chairperson in May 2019 and would continue to serve until May 15. However, during Wednesday's board meeting, member Celestino White Sr. argued Smith is no longer eligible to serve since she accepted a position with the Tourism Department as the assistant director of festivals for St. John, via the Virgin Islands Daily News.
- Shana Godfred-Cato, a pediatrician and medical officer at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, spoke with the Virgin Islands Source about the benefits of pediatric vaccinations. She made a case for children in the Virgin Islands to be vaccinated before returning to in-person classes.

- Catch one of the two showings of Fireburn, The Documentary, at the CMCArts Center in St. Croix. It is showing Friday night and Saturday night, though reservations are highly encouraged as attendance is capped at 50 people per showing. (6:00 p.m.)
- Leatherback Brewing in St. Thomas hosts a Friday Night movie every week. This week you can catch Snatch, the fast-paced Guy Ritchie gangers hit. (6:00 p.m.)
