Police Investigate Animal Cruelty After Roosters Found Tied To Tree

The roosters were likely used in sport fighting and left to die.

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Police are investigating a case of animal cruelty after four roosters were found tied to tree branches in the Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge in Frederiksted .

According to the Virgin Islands Police Department, a U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service employee discovered the roosters hanging from tree branches by their feet. Three of the birds were dead and one was still alive. Police say that the roosters were likely used for sport fighting and were left to die.

The VIPD Animal Cruelty Investigator is seeking any information regarding this incident, or anyone that may have had their chickens stolen in the past weeks, to contact 911, Detective Daniel Rodriguez at (340) 473-6492, or Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-TIPS.
