WAPA Warns: Don't Fall for Scammer Calls
Scammers impersonating WAPA are calling customers and demanding account payment. Don't fall for it!

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) is warning customers not to fall for scam calls that appear to come from the utility.

WAPA released an alert Thursday morning stating, "there are increased instances where persons are spoofing the Authority's switchboard telephone numbers to make it appear as if the call is legitimate and originating at WAPA."

The call sounds like an automated message and prompts customers to call a 1-866 number and make immediate payment or their service will be disconnected. According to WAPA, it's bogus.
If you receive one of these calls, do not provide your account information and definitely do not share any financial information.

The WAPA advisory added, "WAPA does not use an automated telephone system to contact customers regarding account payments, delinquency and or service disconnection. Persons receiving such robocalls should immediately hang up."
