A woman escaped her kidnappers after they forced her into a vehicle and tried to ransom her, according to the VIPD.

ST. CROIX, USVI — A St. Croix woman escaped her kidnappers in the early hours of Thursday morning after they followed her and forced her into a car at gunpoint, according to a statement from the Virgin Islands Police Department.
The victim told police she was walking on Strand Street in Christiansted on August 18 around 11 p.m., when she noticed two men walking behind her. When she got to the corner of Strand and King Cross Streets, she noticed that one of the men had a firearm in his hand. One of the males then ordered her to walk toward the Government Parking Lot where they forced her into a vehicle. The suspects drove the victim to a gas station in Grove Place where they called her significant other to demand a ransom.
Shortly after they made the call, the victim was able to escape from her kidnappers and get assistance. The VIPD is investigating the kidnapping.
