SAN ANTONIO, TX — A shooting at a shopping mall in San Antonio Sunday afternoon after a jewelry store robbery gone awry has left one dead and several bystanders injured, police confirmed.
By late Sunday afternoon, San Antonio Police Department Chief William McManus briefed the media about the incident that occurred just after 3:30 p.m. He said two suspects attempted to rob the Kay Jewelers store in the early part of the afternoon, but violence ensued after a pair of mall patrons intervened as the pair fled.

"What we have here is a robbery gone really, really bad," McManus said.
According to a preliminary investigation, two suspects fled after attempting to rob the jewelry store. As they fled, two individuals the chief described as "good Samaritans" tried to intervene, which led to one of the suspects fatally shooting one of them.
The victim's companion, who has a concealed handgun license, then shot one of the robbery suspects, who was later transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, the police chief said. McManus said the other suspect than ran off in the other direction, shooting randomly as he fled.
Police later confirmed the shot suspect was in critical condition, while the innocent victims were all in stable condition. By late evening, police confirmed the second suspect in the botched heist had been captured and would be charged with capital murder.

By early Monday morning, police made good on their pledge by posting the videotaped "perp walk" on their Facebook page. The second suspect who police have yet to identify was reportedly located after crashing his vehicle in nearby Converse as he eluded law enforcement officials. The town of Converse is located roughly 15 miles north of San Antonio.
Six mall patrons were hurt after the second gunman went on a shooting spree as he fled, the police chief said. One mall patron caught in the mix suffered a heart attack and had to be rushed to the hospital, the police chief added.
"Beyond that, we don't have much else," McManus told reporters in terms of his ability to provide further details during his initial press conference.
San Antonio resident Azalea Scott alerted her loved ones via Facebook she was safe. Scott had been shopping at the mall with family members and friends when she heard gunshots and took shelter in a back room at one of the stores.
"Everyone is fine," Scott wrote. "Word is someone in the jewelry shop was shot."
Scott told Patch the shooting occurred on the first floor of the mall while she was joined by her sister, niece and two friends during a shopping excursion in the mall's top floor. After hearing the shots, they retreated to a back room at Charlotte Russe, a women's clothing and shoes store.
By Sunday evening, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott reacted to the incident, tweeting that he was praying for victims while hoping for justice in punishing the culprits.
