WASHINGTON, DC — Federal authorities this fiscal year have detained more than 1.1 million people while attempting to cross the border between the United States and Mexico.

Border apprehensions are at a 20-year high and have increased every month since President Joe Biden took office, according to a report by The Washington Post. Many people who were apprehended this fiscal year have attempted to cross the border more than once.

Apprehensions last hit 1 million in 2006; however, many more people are attempting to cross the border this June compared to 2006. Approximately 68,000 migrants were taken into custody in June 2006, compared with 188,829 apprehensions last month.
