Donald Glover Fans’ Coup Of Reddit Page Leaves Trump Fans Reeling

It’s been quite a week on “thedonald,” an anything-goes, frequently racist, pro-President Trump sub-Reddit page where users were free to to “discuss in an unbiased manner Donald Trump’s great contributions to modern society.” But the site has lost its identity.

Fans of "Star Wars" actor and musician Donald Glover hijacked the 22,000-subscriber subreddit page, called r/thedonald, on Monday and since — they said because they want to reclaim the name “Donald.”

Fans even replaced the cover photo on the page with one of Glover and proclaimed him “the real one true Donald.” Apparently, the “mod,” shorthand for moderator, of the thread had been absent for 19 days, giving Glover’s fans the opportunity to pounce on and claim it.

That left some of the original fans of the page perplexed. “Why is donglover all over thedonald? Why aren’t the mods doing anything about it?” one person posted Monday.

"You Trump supporters sure are a delicate bunch," someone countered.

“Just accept it,” another user replied. “Luckily, the moderation here is basically nonexistent, so we can do what we want!”

And they did. The coup on thedonald has been kind of fun to watch from the safety of our devices, where we’re free to make faces or laugh out loud at some of the things that have been written, including this gem:

“Not a racist. Not a rapist. Can read. Was never bankrupt. Likes Mexicans. Talented. Pays his taxes. Handsome. Loves immigrants. Not a puppet for Russia. Doesn’t want to [expletive] his daughter. Must be the real one true Donald,” one user posted above a picture of Donald Glover.

What a conversation that sparked. One of the president’s defenders answered the post line by line.

“Not a racist. Disliking trespassing into our country is different than disliking immigrants.

“Not a rapist. Besides being a purely hypothetical remark, what part of ‘let you’ suggests nonconsent.

“Can read.

“Was never bankrupt; however, did control companies that performed strategic restructures under bankruptcy protections, something very commonplace in business.

“Likes Mexicans, as long as they follow and respect our laws.

“Talented; far more than most persons on the planet. He's proven it time and again; that's how one becomes a billionaire.

“Pays his taxes; only to the degree that the law requires. Who is stupid enough to pay more?

“Not a puppet for Russia. Yet, Mueller is still pointlessly spinning his wheels and wasting tax dollars.
Doesn't want to [expletive] his daughter. Boy, you people are sick.

“The real Donald; not a two-bit wannabe who has to act in a movie like someone successful.”

Burn.

And speaking of that, after someone said Glover should be president, someone else said, “plenty of people would vote for a burnt crouton at this point just to take out the incumbent.”

The whole conversation caused someone to note, “This is wrinkling my brain.”

Trump fans, take heart. A more famous Reddit Trump fan page, The_Donald, boasts 610,000 “patriots” and remains intact.
